![]() Tim Brabants in action in the K1 1000m event
Tim Brabants powered through to claim Britain's first ever Olympic canoeing medal.
The 23-year-old from Walton-on-Thames snatched bronze in the final of the men's K1 1000m kayak event in Sydney. Brabants was lying in fifth place at the halfway mark but produced a late surge to emerge victorious in a photo-finish for third place. Norway's defending champion Knut Holmann took the gold while Petar Merkov of Bulgaria secured silver. more follows
