Strong spurt sends Brabants into final
British canoeist Tim Brabants clinches a place in the K1 1000m final
Tim Brabants will line up in the K1 1000m final
Britain's Tim Brabants put in a strong finish to claim a place in the men's K1 1000m final.

But elsewhere, Britain's paddlers drew blanks in their semi-finals.

After labouring over the third 250m stretch, Brabants put in a spurt to post the fastest final-leg time in the semi-final at 55.04 seconds.

His overall time of 3:37.205 brought him home in second place behind Norway's Knut Holmann, who posted a time of 3:36.425.

British pair Paul DArby-Dowman and Ross Sabberton failed to make the final of the two-man kayak event, after finishing fifth in their semi-frinal in a time of 3:19.826.

It was a similar tale in the C2, where brothers Andrew and Steve Train just missed out on a place in the final, finishing fourth in their semi-final.

The pair came in a second behind third-placed Mexican pair Ramon Ferrer and Antonio Romero in a semi-final won by Germans Lars Kober and Stefan Utess.

Reinstated

Meanwhile, defending Olympic champion Martin Doktor of the Czech Republic has been reinstated in the C1 500m final after initially being disqualified.

Double Atlanta gold medallist Doktor had been tossed out by the competition committee following a protest by German Andrea Dittmer that he had infringed the five-metre rule.

The rule is designed to prevent paddlers straying off a straight line and gaining a possible advantage in a competitor's slipstream.

Doktor was reinstated after the International Canoe Federation overturned the Competition Committee's decision after finding there was no concrete evidence.

Doktor is now clear to compete in Saturday's C1 1000m final, and the C1 1500m final 24 hours later.
