![]() Wynne recorded the second fastest qualifying time
Ian Wynne qualified with ease for the semi-finals of the 500m Kayak sprint.
The 26-year-old from Teddington paddled his craft to the finish in one minute and 42.779 seconds. That was the second best time of the heat behind Hungarian Akos Vereckei (1:42.089). Paul Darby-Dowman and Ross Sabberton were third in their two-man kayak (K2) 500m heat in 1:32.782, giving them a place in the semi-finals. In the two-man canoe (C2 500m), brothers Andrew and Stephen Train also progressed, finishing fifth in their heat with a time of 1:46.986. Team manager Alan Williams said: "Ian Wynne put in a good performance and looked to be very comfortable over the last 150m. "The Train brothers were glad to get more start practice as part of the build-up for their main event which is the 1000m." Meanwhile Anna Hemmings could only manage eighth place in her women's K1 500m sprint with a time of 1:59.190 - five seconds off her personal best. |
