Denmark come back for handball gold
![]() Great Danes: Denmark rejoice in Olympic gold
Denmark defended its Olympic gold
medal in women's handball by coming back from a six-goal
deficit to beat Hungary 31-27.
Katrine Fruelund's goal tied the game at 23-23 with less than ten minutes left, after Denmark fought back to overcome Hungary's lead. Once Denmark got their noses in front they managed to hold off the Hungarians and in the end won with relative ease. "I can't grasp this," said Denmark's coach Jan Pytlick. "The finish was awesome. We talked about pulling ourselves together and when the pressure was at its highest we just did." Hoffmann-Moberg scored 11 of Denmark's goals while Andersen contributed seven. Bojana Radulovic scored nine goals for Hungary, whose silver was their best Olympic showing. Earlier, Mia Hundvin scored the winner with 1 minute and 23 seconds left in the match to give Norway the bronze medal with a 22-21 victory over South Korea. |
