Iran break wrestling duck
![]() Dabir gets to grip with his opponent on his way to gold
Iran finally broke their wrestling medal duck on the final day of Olympic
competition as Alireza Dabir delivered gold in the
under 58 kg freestyle.
Dabir beat Yevgen Buslovych of the Ukraine in the final on a 3-0 decision and was embraced, draped in a flag and carried on a supporter's shoulder after the victory. Despite Iran's relief, it was Russia's day again as they claimed two more freestyle gold medals to take their tally to four in freestyle and six in total. Adam Saitiev was the most impressive winner in the under 85 kg category, convincingly beating the world champion, Yoel Romero of Cuba, by pinning him 40 seconds into the second round. Romero was a gracious loser and nodded his head in appreciation of the skill displayed by his opponent to beat him. David Moussoulbes added the final Russian gold in the under 130 kg section with a victory over Artur Taymazov of Uzbekistan. Taymazov, a 21-year-old, had shocked the Cuban former world champion Alexis Rodriguez in the semi-final but could not repeat his performance in the final. The final gold medal of the day was won by the Canadian world under 69 kg champion, Daniel Igali who beat another Russian, Arsen Gitinov, in the most entertaining final of the afternoon 7-4.
