Powell breaks leg in fall
Rodney Powell
Powell fell when his horse took fright
Rodney Powell's Olympic dream is over after the British equestrian rider broke his leg in a fall during training in Sydney.

Powell was thrown from his mount, Flintstone, at the western Sydney Olympic site when the horse took fright shortly after finishing their training run.

Powell was rushed to nearby Liverpool hospital and will undergo surgery. He was due to compete in the individual three-day event.

Simon Clegg, British chef de mission, said: "Everyone is disappointed for Rodney, because it is a terrible thing to happen for him so close to the Games."

Kristina Gifford and her horse, The Gangster, who have travelled to Sydney as a reserve, will replace Powell.
