Harrison win inspired by Redgrave
Audley Harrison
Harrison keeps the British flag flying
Britain's last remaining boxer, Audley Harrison, kept hopes of a medal alive with a last-ditch first round win.

Super heavyweight Harrison stopped Alexey Lezin of Russia 50 seconds into the fourth and final round of the fight when he was trailing on points 8-6.

The 28-year-old Londoner now goes through to the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Britain's only other boxer, light heavyweight Courtney Fry, was beaten comprehensively in his first round fight last week.

"I knew after one punch he was definitely there and I just wanted four clear shots - I had three," said Harrison.

"I worked at it and it came. I'm very pleased with my fight."

Harrison's fight was watched by former world heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield and Princess Anne and the amateur star paid tribute to Olympic rowing record-breaker Steve Redgrave.

"That's a great boost for me, it's a great boost for boxing. I don't think the princess has come to too many boxing matches,"

"I watched Steve Redgrave win a gold medal this morning and that gave me a real boost."

Difficult fight

American Rocky Juarez had to come through a difficult fight against Falk Huste winning 17-15 in the second round of the 57kg featherweight competition with Thailand's Somluck Kamsing, the current Olympic champion, ready to face Juarez after beating Tulkunbay Turgunov of Uzbekistan 7-2.

Another American, Jermain Taylor thrashed Scott McIntosh of Canada 23-9 in the 71kg light middleweight category.

The super heavyweight division saw a win for Cuba's Alexis Rubalcaba who knocked out Cengiz Koc in the first round.

Eight Cubans in total have reached the quarter-finals, including Yosvany Zamora, who beat Bulgarian Juri Mladenov 15-8 at 57 kg and Juan Hernandez, an Olympic silver medalist at 67 kg in 1992-96, who stopped Mohmmed Marmouri of Tunisia at 71 kg.
