Hazel Irvine

For BBC Sport presenter Hazel Irvine, this will be her sixth trip to report on an Olympic Games, either summer or winter.

Hazel's broadcasting career began in 1986 as a production assistant with Radio Clyde in Glasgow.

Her move into sport came a year later when she joined Scottish Television as a reporter, before working as a presenter on ITV's coverage of the 1988 Olympics and the 1990 World Cup Finals.

Hazel joined BBC Scotland in August 1990 as presenter of its Friday night sports preview programme Sportscene.

In 1992, she was part of the award-winning BBC team covering the Barcelona Olympics and, in the same year, was in Sweden for the European Football Championship as BBC Scotland's main reporter.

In 1997, Hazel took over from David Vine as the regular presenter of BBC Two's Ski Sunday.

She has also presented Sunday Grandstand and regularly reports for Football Focus.

At the 1999 RTS Awards, she was named Best Regional TV Presenter/Reporter.

1999 marked her tenth year of hosting BBC Scotland's annual Children In Need broadcast, and she also presented the millennium edition of Hogmanay Live.

Hazel has also presented two health and leisure series for BBC Scotland, Feeling Good and Outside Now.

Born in St. Andrews, she attended the Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh before studying for an MA in History of Art at the University of St. Andrews, where she also gained representative honours in golf, netball and athletics for Scottish Universities.

A keen golfer, Hazel describes herself as an enthusiastic, "but pretty average" skier. She is also honorary president of Dumbarton FC's Supporters Association.
