Nicky Campbell

Nicky Campbell presents the Nicky Campbell programme on BBC Radio Five Live each weekday from 9.00am to 12 Midday.

He was born in Edinburgh in April 1961 and was educated at the Edinburgh Academy and Aberdeen University, earning a degree in history.

Nicky began work as a clerical officer in the civil service before gaining his first position in radio as a jingle writer for independent radio in Scotland.

His evident ease at the microphone was quickly spotted and he was granted his first weekly slot - on the delights of opera.

The programme's popularity ensured that Nicky was to be heard far more regularly, and he went on to present his own breakfast show on the station, before moving to independent radio in London.

Nicky joined Radio 1 in October 1987, with a late night Saturday programme between 10.00pm and Midnight.

He launched the station's new drivetime slot on 1 January 1994 and he took over presenting the afternoon show in January 1995.

Nicky began his show on Five Live in October 1997 and quickly established it as a voice of the people.
