David Mercer

David Jeremy Mercer has worked for the BBC since 1984.

For the early part of his BBC career, David combined freelance work for BBC Wales with his solicitors practice and public relations work.

From 1984 to 1992, David worked under contract for BBC Radio Sport.

In 1984, he was lucky enough to umpire the memorable Wimbledon final between Connors and McEnroe.

He was appointed Radio Five Live's tennis correspondent in 1990.

From 1992 to the present day he has been under contract for BBC Sport, commentating on tennis and also covering badminton and rugby union.

David also presented Sportsdesks on Radios One, Two, Four and Five and programmes such as Soccer Special on Radio Five as well as Test Match Special on Radio Three.

Outside of the office, David remains a keen sportsman, playing racquet sports, rugby, football and cricket.
