Radcliffe eases into final
Sonia O'Sullivan during these Olympics
Safely through: Ireland's Sonia O'Sullivan
Britain's Paula Radcliffe was a comfortable qualifier for Saturday's 10,000m final alongside Ireland's Sonia O'Sullivan.

Radcliffe finished sixth in the second of the two semi-finals on Wednesday, after 5,000m silver medallist O'Sullivan came seventh in the first race.

Despite a cold rest day and overnight rain, the heats were run in lunchtime heat as the sun returned to Stadium Australia.

Radcliffe had no problems keeping with the leading pack through lap after lap of the track.

The Briton, who won silver at the world championships in Seville last year, came home sixth in 32 minutes and 34.73 seconds.

The time was only marginally behind race winner Sally Barsosio of Kenya.

O'Sullivan finished 23 seconds adrift of Dearartu Tulu in the first heat.

The Ethiopian won the heat in 32 minutes 6.19 seconds.

O'Sullivan

O'Sullivan, who clocked 32:29.93 after dropping off the pace with around six laps left, comfortably made it through in seventh place.

"If I had a choice I wouldn't be running six miles at mid-day," she said.

"But there are no aches or pains. I was just doing enough to qualify."

O'Sullivan's compatriot Breda Dennehy-Willis failed to qualify, finishing back in 11th place in 33:17.45.
