Thomas in hot form for relay
![]() Jamie Baulch and Iwan Thomas prepare for the relay
Iwan Thomas is back on top form and rearing to go in Friday's 4x400m relay.
His times were poor before the Games as he failed to meet the qualifying standard for the individual event. Now injury free, he makes the claim on his website to have recorded a 400m time of 43.9 seconds. If he had run this in the Olympic final it would have given him the silver medal, just one tenth of a second behind the peerless king of the one-circuit sprint, Michael Johnson.
Thomas spoke on his site about Britain's chances in the relay event: "We'll have to pull out all the stops to get anywhere. I'm confident, if we race to the best of our ability we're in with a shout, but what might be interesting after these performances is team selection," he said. Thomas also spoke to the BBC about the 400m final, majestically won by Johnson. He was impressed by the performance of the Texan, but disappointed that the other contenders failed to push him for the gold. |
