Cram awaits Jackson's moment
Steve Cram
BBC athletics commentator and Olympic silver medallist Steve Cram gives BBC Sport Online his thoughts on the men's action on day three and looks forward to day four

It's coming up to the moment of truth for Colin Jackson in the 110m hurdles.

He looked good and solid in qualifying however nothing is certain in athletics.

I hope he gets the elusive gold although I have to admit the Americans looked good and will test him to the limit on Monday.

But I think he has something left in the tank and can improve on his recent times.

Whereas Jackson looked confident I think that Chris Rawlinson seemed nervous in qualifying for the semi-finals of the 400m hurdles.

Unlucky

It wasn't a particularly fast time and he looked to tie up a bit although I have to admit they were very difficult conditions out there.

Watch out for Larry Achike who jumped to a personal best and won the qualifying group ahead of Edwards.

Perhaps the fact that there was one less round to contend with made Chris a bit edgy knowing that he would have to finish in the top two to qualify, but at least he is now in the semis and that's the important thing.

Daniel Caines was very, very unlucky to miss out on a place in the 400m final.

I thought with Davian Clarke pulling out that Daniel had a great chance to qualify.

He is a gutsy kid and did brilliantly in his first Olympics.

Ease

To run your personal best at the Games is superb and you can't ask for any more.

Give him a year or two and he will be running under 45 seconds.

It is a shame we don't have a Briton in the final, but with Iwan Thomas' injury and Mark Richardson's nandrolone case, we have been unfortunate.

Looking forward to Monday, it's great to know that we have three Britons in the final of the men's triple jump.

Jonathan Edwards looked at ease and did just enough to reach the final of the event.

But he even though the focus will be on Edwards watch out for Larry Achike who jumped to a personal best and won the qualifying group ahead of Edwards.
