Aussies drop Van Heer
Tania Van Heer is out of the Games
Tania Van Heer is out of the Games
Dual Commonwealth Games champion sprinter Tania Van Heer has been left out of the Australian Olympic track and field team because of fitness doubts.

Australian head coach Chris Wardlaw broke the news to Van Heer at the team's base camp in Brisbane on Thursday.

Van Heer had been in limbo for a week with her fate in the hands of Athletics Australia after she sought late inclusion in the 4x100m relay squad.

She had failed to contest the Olympic trials in Sydney earlier this month with an Achilles tendon injury.

The 29-year-old ran a 100m time trial in Adelaide last week but the stipulated 11.6 seconds proved insufficient because of a wind advantage.

She joined the rest of the Australian team at the Brisbane camp last Saturday but Wardlaw described her form as "pretty fair but not Van Heer standard."
