British record for Devon lifter

weightlifting

Devon weightlifter Sonny Webster broke the British Under 14s record for the snatch as he won the Fulda Cup in Lochen, Austria.

He lifted 76kg and narrowly missed out on lifting 96kg in the clean and jerk, which would also have been a record.

The Ivybridge Community College student is coached by Commonwealth Games gold medallist Michaela Breeze.

"I'm really chuffed for him. He won his weight category and the best lifter award for his age group," she said.

"Hopefully next year he will go the European youth championships," she added.

The lift also qualified him for the British Under 18s championships in October.
