Bella Comerford put in a spectacular run to win Ironman Lanzarote on Sunday, her second win of 2008.

The 30-year-old from Aberdeenshire, who was born in Norwich, completed the 140 mile triathlon 10 minutes ahead of her nearest rival, Heleen Bij de Vaate.

Comerford started with her usual slow swim, but after a strong section on the bike she took the lead from Tara Norton after nine miles of the 26 mile run.

In April, Bella won Ironman South Africa, last August she won Iroman UK.

It's the job I train to do. I just told myself to be patient, keep calm and keep pushing

Her win in Port Elizabeth in April was a historic one as her partner Stephen Bayliss won the mens event, and she was delighted to make it a double in the Canaries.

"I'm over the moon to have won today," Comerford told the Ironman live official website.

She had to overcome a six-and-a-half minute deficit to take the lead from Canadian Norton, but she said she never let that get to her.

"It's stupid to worry about the girl ahead being the stronger rider," said Comerford.

"It's the job I train to do. I just told myself to be patient, keep calm and keep pushing."

Norfolk's Chrissie Wellington is the reigning World Ironman Champion after winning in Hawaii in October 2007.
