Lincoln swimmer Lizzie Simmonds has been selected for the Great Britain squad for the European short course championships in Croatia in December.

Simmonds, 17 who is now based at Loughborough, came sixth in the 200m backstroke at the Beijing Olympics.

She is tipped to be one of the stars at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Simmonds told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "2012 is a long-term goal and it's always in your mind but there are a lot of of major meets before then."

Lizzie admitted that her immediate focus would be on success in Rijeka in December.

She said: "For me it's important to take each competition as it comes and not think about the future too much."
