Scott praises Sweetenham legacy
Swimming
Michael Scott has paid tribute to Bill Sweetenham after taking up the post of British Swimming's new high-performance boss for the 2008 Olympics build-up.

Sweetenham stood down from the role last month for personal reasons with fellow Aussie Scott taking on the role while a permanent successor is sought.

"Bill left a wonderful legacy and a fantastic foundation," said Scott, who ran the 2007 World Championships.

"With Beijing so close, my role is to build on those foundations," he added.

"I'm an ex-swimmer and an ex-swimming coach and I've worked in recent years in high performance sport managing high performance systems.

I'm not Bill Sweetenham. We have different skills but we share the same passion for the sport

"A combination of my passion for the sport and understanding of high performance will allow me to build on Bill's great work.

"I will ensure the coaches and swimmers have the support they need to perform in the lead-up to the Olympic trials then at the Games themselves.

"My task is to keep the ship moving and make sure any fine-tuning required between now and Beijing is carried out as well as looking at longer-term opportunities for the sport."

"The prospect of the 2012 London Olympics brings a real sense of excitement and opportunity and thanks to the progress made since 2001 it's not a case of starting at square one."
