Newark's Blake to take time out

Blake came fourth in the under-56kg class in Athens

Newark powerlifter Natalie Blake has decided to take some time away from sport after the Beijing Paralympics.

Blake finished sixth in the under-48kg category, having taken the decision to drop two weight classes since the Athens Games four years ago.

The 25-year-old could only manage a heaviest lift of 97.5kg, far below the 130kg of gold medallist Lucy Ejike.

"I'm going to take some time out before I make a decision on my future and the possibility of London 2012," she said.

"I came here to get white lights, play my own game and work alongside my coach," she added.

Ejike broke the world record twice during the event but Blake admits she was not concerned with her rivals.

"All I can do is perform to the best of my ability. I can't affect what others do, I can only concentrate on my own game."
