Guide to Modern Pentathlon

Modern pentathlon is a diverse and unique event, and Team GB has performed well in recent years. Here's our guide to the sport.

The sport
Modern pentathlon consists of five disciplines: shooting, fencing, swimming, horse riding and running.

Athletes earn points in each discipline, with the number of points gained from the first four determining the starting position for the final event - the cross-country run.

Modern pentathlon requires incredible all-round fitness and stamina, as the whole event takes place in a gruelling 12 hour period.

Getting started
If you like lots of sports and don't mind trying something new, this could be just what you're looking for.

The best way to get started is to contact the Modern Pentathlon Association of Great Britain. They'll give you loads of good advice, as well as helping you find a club in your area.
