Olympic Dreams - Jess Ennis

Age 22, Heptathlon

Jess was one of the favourites for heptathlon Olympic gold in Beijing before a foot fracture cruelly forced her to pull out in June.

The Sheffield star began running aged 10 and soon added throwing and jumping to her skill base.

Seven events in two days is not everybody's cup of tea, but Ennis picked up a Commonwealths bronze in her first major championships in 2006.

The psychology graduate was fourth at the worlds last year, and also holds the UK high jump record.
