Danson is the women's team most prolific scorer
Great Britain women's hockey forward Alex Danson has been cleared to make her Olympic debut in Beijing.
Danson, 23, hurt her right ankle during a practice match against New Zealand on 28 July and scans revealed she suffered a grade one ligament strain.
But she has passed a late fitness test and will be available for Britain's opening game against defending Olympic champions Germany on Sunday.
"We are delighted for the team and for Alex," said head coach Danny Kerry.
"She has shown tremendous strength of character over the last 10 days and she is thoroughly deserving of this positive outcome."
Kerry had said that being without the services of Danson, Britain's highest outfield goalscorer, "would be a bit like losing Wayne Rooney just before a tournament".
