Devon three-day eventer Mary King has won the British Equestrian Federation's Olympic Athlete of the Year Award.

The Salcombe Regis-based rider, who took silver at Athens in 2004, was part of the British team which won a seventh consecutive European title.

King, who also won European individual silver, said: "2007 was a fantastic season for me, especially the success at the European Championships."

King hopes to be selected for Beijing 2008 with her ride Call Again Cavalier.

She was presented with her award by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall at a ceremony in London.

It is the second year the award has been given out, with world champion Zara Phillips winning it in 2006.
