Britain's Rebecca Gallantree has fallen at the first hurdle of the women's 3m springboard diving event in Beijing.

Leeds-based Gallantree, who will be 24 on Tuesday, failed to progress through her preliminaries, finishing 25th.

Her mark of 232.75 points from five dives left her seven places away from qualification, with the top 18 of 30 divers reaching Saturday's semi-finals.

"I'm disappointed not to be in the next round but I know this Olympic adventure will serve me well for 2012," she said.

It's my first Games and the aim is to gain an insight and invaluable lessons

"I'm improving all the time and growing as a diver, days like today add so much to that.

"These Olympics for me are all about experience. It's my first Games - as it is for most of the young British squad - and the aim is to gain an insight and invaluable lessons."

China's Guo Jingjing leads after the preliminaries as the host nation eyes a clean sweep of diving gold medals.
