Great Britain's Campbell Walsh and David Florence both reached the semi-finals of their events at the Shunyi Rowing-Canoeing Park.

Florence, competing in the canoe event, enjoyed a superb second run to end the heats as the third-fastest overall qualifier for Tuesday's semi-finals.

"It's great to have a good run. I'm pretty confident for the semi now," said Florence.

And in the single kayak slalom, Walsh was ninth quickest overall.

"I paddled really well and I was shocked to be in 14th place after the first run," he said.

"I definitely think that if I paddle well I can go on and get a medal.

"In the semi-finals it's a case of giving it your all but not doing anything silly. It's a balancing act, as trying anything too risky will blow it."

Walsh is back in action in the kayak semi-final on Tuesday at 0840 BST.

Florence's blistering time of 82.16 seconds in his second run was the second quickest of the day.

"My first run didn't go to plan, but I was much stronger the second time around," he added.

"It's quite a straightforward course but on the first run I took three massive hits on the big waves and it cost me time."
