United States thrashed Greece 92-69 on Thursday to gain some measure of revenge over the only team to beat them since the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Kobe Bryant and Chris Bosh each scored 18 points, with Dwayne Wade and LeBron James posting 17 and 13 respectively.
The US, trying to reclaim the global throne after third place in both Athens and the 2006 World Championship in Japan, dominated the match defensively.
Meanwhile, China beat Angola 85-68 for their first win in the men's event.
In their first meeting since the Greeks upset the US 101-95 in the semi-finals of the 2006 World Championship, the American stars pulled away for good in the second quarter after a close first.
Greece had no answer to the superior speed that the American NBA stars used to set up spectacular slam dunks, or to their defensive tightness.
The US remain unbeaten after three games in preliminary round Group B and now face a showdown on Saturday against world champions Spain, who are also unbeaten.
That match is likely to decide which team claims a top quarter-final seed.
China's 7ft 6in Houston Rockets centre Yao Ming scored 30 points in his side's victory over Angola as he dominated under the basket and took advantage of sloppy play by the African champions to score on turnovers.
Sun Yue, who has joined the Los Angeles Lakers, added 11 points while Angola's Joaquim Gome scored 17 points.
China, Germany and Greece each have one victory and lead the fight for the last two quarter-final berths from Group B.
The Olympic hosts will face Germany on Saturday and Greece on Monday, and are likely to need at least one win to advance.
"If we keep up our spirit, we can fight against anyone, including Germany and Greece," Yao said.
"We cannot choose our opponents. We need to beat them when we meet them."
In other matches on Thursday, Australia beat Iran 106-68 while Spain downed Germany 72-59 and Argentina beat Croatia 77-53.
Greece, which lost to Spain in its opener, faces winless Angola before closing pool play against China.
