Robinson braced for big weekend

Robinson will fly home on Monday to be with his pregnant wife

Gloucestershire marathon runner Dan Robinson is about to experience the biggest weekend of his life.

Team GB's number one distance runner will aim to better his 23rd place finish in Athens in 2004 on the same weekend that his first child is due.

Wife Jess will be watching Sunday's race from the couple's cottage high above the town of Nailsworth.

She told BBC Gloucestershire: "I'm very well and the midwife is pretty sure the baby won't arrive until Dan gets home."

Robinson has been in the holding camp in Macau preparing for Sunday's race.

He said: "I'm now in an apartment in the Olympic village, and it's exciting with the games going on around me.

"I'm missing home and missing Jess but I'm staying positive, looking forward to the race and then looking forward to coming home as well.

"I've been chatting to the team doctors and they've been saying nature is a wonderful thing. They think Jess will be able to hang on until I get back."
