Team GB's top athletes: Phillips Idowu
Phillips Idowu

Idowu, 29, is the current Commonwealth Games champion, and World and European Indoor champion and Team GB's best hope for gold in the athletics arena.

He jumped 17.58 metres - the furthest in the world this year - in July's trials.

"I feel like Superman. I don't think anyone can stop me. I'm bullet-proof," he said.

A colourful character with hair to match he puts his recent form and fitness down in part to regularly lying naked in the dark in a flotation tank.

The men's triple jump final starts at 1315 BST on 21 August.
