Bekele is the 5000m world record holder
Ethiopia star Kenenisa Bekele will try to add 5000m gold (at 1310 BST) to his 10,000m title as the Olympic Games enters its penultimate day.
The Olympic long distance double was last done back in 1980.
Lisa Dobriskey is a medal hope in the women's 1500m (1250 BST), while fellow Brit Tim Brabants goes for a second gold in the K1 500m kayak at 0830 BST.
British boxer James DeGale will fight for gold in the middleweight final against Cuba's Emilio Correa.
Outside medal chance Pete Waterfield and teenager Tom Daley will be in action in the semi-finals of the men's 10m platform diving at 0300 BST, with both hoping to qualify for the final later in the day.
Another genuine British medal contender is the experienced Sarah Stevenson in the women's 67kg taekwondo, at 0200 BST.
The 25-year-old is in her third Olympics, and took silver at the Olympic qualifiers despite suffering a broken hand.
In the men's football, star names like Lionel Messi, Javier Mascherano and Juan Roman Riquelme take centre stage as Argentina take on a Nigeria side featuring Everton striker Victor Anichebe in the final of the men's football at 0600 BST.
Baseball, which will be cut from the Games after 2008, is poised to bid farewell to the Olympics, with defending champions Cuba taking on South Korea for gold (1100 BST) and the United States up against Japan for the bronze medal (0330 BST) .
The athletics builds towards a climax at the Bird's Nest Stadium, with seven medals up for grabs including the women's high jump (1200 BST) and men's 800m (1230 BST).
The men's and women's 4x400m relays (at 1405 and 1340 BST respectively) will bring the curtain down on the athletics in the Bird's Nest Stadium, but the main focus is likely to be on Bekele's quest to emulate his fellow Ethiopian Miruts Yifter's 1980 feat by adding the 5000m to his 10,000m crown.
And after an authoritative performance in her heat, Dobriskey has the chance to add another medal in the women's 1500m although she will have to race intelligently against a strong field.
