Countries to watch: Montenegro
Montenegro montage

The newest Olympic country split from Serbia in June 2006 and independent Montenegro's athletes will compete for the first time in Beijing.

In 2004, Serbia and Montenegro's players won silver in the waterpolo. This time the Montenegrins will be hoping to go one better after winning the European Olympic qualifying tournament.

Sporting success on the global stage will be a powerful unifying force for the fledgling nation. But Montenegro may have to beat Serbia to win gold - a clash to watch should the sides emerge from the group stages.
