SCHOOL STATS
Number of students - 320
Number of teachers - 40
Where in the world? Nairobi, Kenya

Peponi House School is located in the suburbs of Nairobi. English may be spoken in the classroom, but pupils come from over 40 different nationalities.

Former Peponi House students have gone on to represent Kenya in swimming, cricket and squash and have also taken part in the Junior PGA Tour.

Rugby, hockey, netball, rounders and tennis are also popular, but the issue of which sport is the most popular "often raises much debate amongst the pupils," headmaster Robert Blake told us.

Grace and Style

Former Head of Swimming, Victoria McKenzie

Teacher Victoria McKenzie was Head of Swimming when Achieng was at Peponi House. She remembers Achieng's first swimming lesson.

"She had a natural grace and style in the water... almost effortless speed and stamina. She was athletic and extremely fit ...always punctual and raring to go," Ms McKenzie says.

What lingers in Victoria McKenzie's memory is Acheing's attitude and determination.

"Achieng was keen to take part in the extra training that was required after school hours and during the lunchtime breaks and was an enthusiastic and dedicated member of the squad."

While at Peponi, Acheing was setting new records at inter-school level and competitions involving other African countries. Peponi House appreciated her team spirit. Even with the demands of high level competition, Achieng went out of her way to swim for the school team.

Acheing retains close links with her former school with her two younger sisters currently at Peponi House. When in Kenya, Achieng still trains in the school pool.

Peponi House students, teachers and parents are all excited by the Olympics and especially by the prospect of a former pupil taking part.

World Olympic Dreams

Achieng is one of the athletes being tracked as London 2012 approaches and they strive to make their Olympic dreams a reality.
