Herr Roland Papa, who still teaches at Kronwerk Gymnasium remembers Hinrich as "a very nice boy" with "a good character", but recalls that he was "sometimes full of mischief".

He recalls how even though Hinrich attained the marks needed to progress on to his dentistry studies, it was clear that sport and other activities were his priority.

Hinrich's links with his former school and teachers have continued, with a class recently visiting his home to see an example of ecological management that Hinrich learnt from his school days.

It is not only Hinrich who the staff and pupils at Kronwerk will be keeping an eye on at London 2012, as another former pupil, Jan-Philip Ohm, hopes to pick up a medal in wheelchair racing in the Paralympic Games.

Although few people at the school were there during Hinrich's time, their is still huge support for Hinrich and the school hope he can bring another Olympic gold back to Germany.
