Sablikova claims 5000m speed skating gold
Martina Sablikova set a new track record to win the 5,000m and collect her second gold medal of the Games. The 22-year-old Czech world record holder over the distance, who also won the 3,000m title, powered around the track in six minutes, 50.92 seconds. Germany's Stephanie Beckert, had set a challenging 6:51.39 to eclipse Canada's defending Olympic champion Clara Hughes who won bronze in her final race. Sablikova said: "I have two golds. The Olympics was wunderbar (wonderful)." Sablikova also finished third in the 1,500m becomes the most successful speed skater at the Vancouver Games and the first Czech athlete to win two titles at the same Winter Olympics. Hughes, 37, who carried the Canadian flag at the opening ceremony, and set the early pace for the favourites to chase, said: "I am ecstatic. It was one of the best races of my life. Now, I am officially retired."
