England beat Poland to make final

Donna Kellogg
Kellogg and Wallwork came through a tense last rubber to seal victory

England booked a rematch with reigning champions Denmark in the final of badminton's European Team Championships after beating Poland 3-2 in Liverpool.

Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg got England, the 2008 runners-up, off to a fine start with a 2-0 win in the mixed.

Andrew Smith lost 2-0 to Przemyslaw Wacha but Liz Cann came from behind to beat Kamila Augustyn 2-1.

Defeat for Nathan Robertson and Clark took it to a last-rubber decider but Wallwork and Kellogg came through 2-1.

"We knew it would be a hard slog and it was, the Poles played really well," said head coach Ian Wright.

"We showed a lot of character to come through. It was good having the experience of Donna there at the end but I thought Jenny was excellent and held her corner very well.

"Denmark are a completely different prospect but with home advantage and slightly less pressure than the last few days I think some of the players will be able to play freer and we will give it our best shot.

"We haven't won it since 1984 and it is time we did. We are going to win it some time soon so why not tomorrow?"
