Antrim are bottom of Division 2 of the NFL after crashing to defeat against fellow relegation candidates Sligo.

The Saffrons wasted four first-half goal chances while a defensive mix-up gifted Eamonn O'Hara Sligo's goal as they led 1-9 to 0-6 at the interval.

Brian Curran was then presented with Sligo's second goal before Thomas McCann replied with a superb strike.

Antrim cut Sligo's lead to three but the visitors finished with seven unanswered points at Casement Park.

The damage was done for the Saffrons by a sloppy first-half display.

Sligo were leading 0-3 to 0-2 when a high ball from Charlie Harrison caused panic in the Antrim defence which allowed Eamon O'Hara to steal in and prod past Sean O'Neill.

With Stephen Gilmartin and Sean Davey taking a stranglehold at midfield, the Yeats men led 1-9 to 0-6 at the break. Five of Antrim's first-half points had come from Paddy Cunningham.

After a Kevin Niblock point, Sligo were gifted their second goal after another defensive mix-up allowed Brian Curran to lash past O'Neill.

Thomas McCann's superb individual goal, as he ran from over 50 yards out, before hammering to the net gave Antrim a lifeline and further points from Cunningham, Kevin Brady helped the Saffrons close to within three of the Connacht county.

But that was as good as it got for Antrim as Sligo re-established control in the closing 15 minutes.

The visitors finished with seven unanswered points as the Saffrons appeared to give up the ghost.

Antrim boss Liam Bradley said before the game that his side needed to win to have any chance of staying in Division 2.

Mathematically, they are only a point off safety at this stage but the portents do not look good for the struggling Saffrons.
