McEnaney refused to be involved in a nominations process

A number of Monaghan clubs have re-nominated Seamus McEnaney for the vacant county senior manager's role. McEnaney opted out of the nominations process last week after a majority of Monaghan clubs asked for the position to be also opened to other candidates. However, the issue now appears to be causing a split in Monaghan with a number of clubs understood to have re-nominated McEnaney for the job. McEnaney's six-year reign came to an end last week. However, the latest developments will heap pressure on the Monaghan county board. McEnaney's Monaghan assistant Paul Grimley has criticised county chairman Paul Curran's handling of the affair. Grimley also claimed that Curran had shown Monaghan players "no respect" during the saga. "Is it a new manager Monaghan should be looking for or a new chairman?" Grimley told the Irish News. "Paul Curran is only in the role nine months and I think his inexperience is starting to shine through. "You get the feeling the chairman has gone on a bit of a solo run here for whatever reason." Grimley alleged that Curran had initially backed McEnaney's request for another three years in the post "to the hilt" before changing his stance. During the controversy, Monaghan players released a statement calling for McEnaney to be re-appointed for a further three years.
