Derry forward Eoin Bradley has been handed a proposed 12-month suspension arising from an alleged post-match incident at a club championship game.

County officials have recommended the penalty after Bradley clashed with a referee following Ballinascreen's win over Glenullin last weekend.

Bradley's club were notified on the proposed ban on Wednesday night.

The Glenullin man must decide by Saturday evening whether he is going to appeal against the sanction.

Bradley was believed to be a contender for Ireland's International Rules squad.

If the ban does come into effect, he will miss all of next year's National Football League and the entire Ulster Championship.

His only Derry action next season would be if the county progress to the closing stages of the All-Ireland Championship.

Bradley's brother Paddy has also been handed a proposed four-week ban for allegedly verbally abusing referee Declan O'Connor in the same game.

On Monday, Derry Disciplinary chief Mickey McCracken said that both the referee's report and video evidence would be viewed.

Bradley scored two points for Glenullin but his side hit four crucial late wides as Ballinascreen edged a 3-2 to 1-7 win.

Derry disciplinary chairman McCracken attended the game at Foreglen but did not see the alleged post-match incident.

"(But) I've heard enough about it and as chairman of the (Derry) CCC (Competitions Control Committee), we have to wait on the referee's report and we also have a video (of the game)."

McCracken confirmed reports that referee O'Connor had been troubled by injury during the game.

There were allegations from Glenullin that the Dungiven referee had been unable to keep up with the play because of his injury and had made a number of crucial incorrect decisions.

Bradley's brother Paddy pulled out of the Derry squad in the early part of the summer while his father Liam is manager of the Antrim senior football team and has also been nominated for the current Oak Leaf county vacancy.
