Dromore's Barry Collins challenges Brian McGuigan at Healy Park
|
Colm McCullagh netted a stoppage-time penalty to win a sensational WJ Dolan Tyrone SFC title for Dromore. Dromore led by 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time, but a Shea McGuigan goal sparked an Ardboe comeback as they went five up. One of the greatest deciders ever played in the county turned back in Dromore's favour when McCullagh knocked over a series of scores. It was Ronan McNabb who won the penalty which McCullagh slotted in the 63rd minute to win it for St Dympna's. In a game played before in front of nearly 7,000 spectators at Healy Park, Frank McGuigan hit the opening score for Ardboe but Dromore responded with three unanswered scores with Sean O'Neill, Barry Collins and McCullagh on target. Kyle Coney responded with an Ardboe score but scores from Eoin McCusker, McNabb, McCullagh and Collins extended Dromore's lead to four. However, Gavin Teague got Ardboe scoring again before half-time and they hit a further unanswered 1-3 after the break. Shea McGuigan netted Ardboe's goal after he latched on to a long delivery from his brother Brian and rounded the Dromore keeper before planting the ball into the empty net. Ardboe looked certain to clinch their first Tyrone title in 11 years as they extended their advantage to 1-12 to 0-10. But a series of McCullagh points cut Ardboe's lead to two as the match entered added-time. Then came the high drama as McNabb's run into the Ardboe square yielded the last-gasp penalty chance for McCullagh. The Tyrone star held his nerve to plant the ball to the net to leave shell-shocked Ardboe with no time to get on terms.
