Gerard O'Kane in action against Sean Cavanagh in this year's Ulster SFC

The 2010 Allianz National Football League will open with a clash between Ulster rivals Derry and Tyrone on Saturday 6 February. Armagh, under new manager Paddy O'Rourke, will also be in action on 6 February as they face Meath away. On 7 February, Monaghan host Cork in Division 1 while in Division 2 it's Kildare v Down and Westmeath v Donegal. On the same day in Division 3, Offaly host Fermanagh, Cavan travel to Roscommon while Antrim take on Sligo. The Antrim-Sligo game will be a repeat of this year's Division 4 final won by the Yeats County. However, from an Ulster point of view the big game on the opening weekend will be the clash between Derry and Tyrone. Derry, under then new manager Damien Cassidy, had a highly promising National League campaign this season where they reached the final before being defeated by Kerry. However, the Oak Leafers wilted badly against Tyrone in the Ulster semi-final on 21 June and after briefly regrouping to beat Monaghan in the qualifiers, were then dumped out of the championship by Donegal in Ballybofey. All-Ireland champions Kerry open the defence of the league title with a home game against Dublin on Sunday 7 February. After struggling during the early part of the championship, the Kingdom turned their season around with an awesome hammering of the Dubs in the All-Ireland quarter-finals in late August.
Paddy O'Rourke will be up against his former team on 20 March

Round two matches will take place on the following weekend with attractive ties including Dublin's clash with Derry and Tyrone's home tie against Mayo. Other stand-out matches include the Saturday 20 March meeting of Down and Armagh which will see new Orchard County boss Paddy O'Rourke up against his former team. Tyrone and Kerry will resume their fierce rivalry in an evening clash, almost certainly at Healy Park on 27 March. Kerry defeated Tyrone in this year's clash after the Kingdom produced an early scoring blitz which left the Red Hands with too much to do in the second half, despite a brave fightback. Tyrone will face Dublin on the final round of matches on Sunday 11 April with other concluding games including Donegal's Division 2 tussle with Armagh and Cavan and Fermanagh's meeting in Division 3. The National Hurling League will open on Saturday 20 February with a repeat of this year's All-Ireland final with Tipperary hosting Kilkenny. The two teams also met in this year's league decider when the Cats also edged a tight verdict. Antrim start their Division 2 campaign with a home game against Carlow on Sunday 21 February. The Saffrons crashed to a surprise defeat in Carlow this year in a result which went a long way to ending their hopes of promotion. Also on 21 February, Down face a tough away opener against Clare, who dropped down from Division 1 this year. This all-Ulster battle between Antrim and Down will take place on 4 April.
