Donegal beat derby rivals Derry in extra-time to win this thrilling All-Ireland SFC third round qualifier.

Colm McFadden's goal on 18 minutes helped Donegal into a 1-5 to 0-5 lead in Ballybofey at the break.

Donegal stayed ahead until the final seconds when Christopher McKaigue hit a point to make it 1-11 to 0-14 and send the game into extra-time.

Kevin Cassidy netted to put Donegal in front while Enda Lynn squandered a last-gasp chance to equalise.

Derry went into an early lead but McFadden's goal put Donegal in charge.

The teams exchanged points until half-time with McFadden adding two points to his tally.

Paddy Bradley sent over a free for the first score after the restart but the All Star was forced off with an injury midway through the half.

McFadden and Michael Murphy were impressive in Donegal's attack as the home side held on to a slender lead.

Eoin Bradley sparked into life in the closing stages and his two quick-fire scores left the Oak Leafers just a point adrift.

Murphy's free restored Donegal's two-point advantage but Mark Lynch pointed before McKaigue sent over the late leveller.

Cassidy slotted home two minutes into extra-time but Donegal wasted numerous opportunities to put the game beyond Derry.

James Kielt scored twice in the second period of extra-time to bring Derry to within a point going into added time.

The final chance fell to Lynn but when he sent his effort wide it was all over and Donegal go on in the qualifiers while Derry make their championship exit.
