Cavan's Rory Dunne escapes the attention of Leighton Glynn
|
Cavan lost 1-12 to 0-9 to Wicklow in their All-Ireland Football Qualifier second round tie at Aughrim. Seanie Johnston scored the first point of the game and Cavan led 0-4 to 0-3 early on but Wicklow mastered the tough conditions better to edge in front. A Paul Earls goal helped the home side to a 1-6 to 0-5 lead at half-time and Wicklow outscored Cavan again in the second half to secure victory. It was a disappointing display from the Ulster side who were well beaten. The ground was rain-lashed throughout but Mick O'Dwyer's team were dominant, with corner-forward Earls' goal the icing on the cake. Earls punched the ball past James Reilly for the only goal of the game.
