Luke Howard had surgery on a cruciate ligament problem
|
Down manager Ross Carr has made several changes to his starting line-up for Saturday night's All-Ireland qualifier against London at Pairc Esler. Ciaran McGovern replaces the injured Luke Howard, who has been ruled out for nine months after having reconstructive knee cruciate ligament surgery. McGovern comes into the side to play at right-back. There are three changes in personnel in defence, a different partnership at midfield and two changes in attack. Aidan Carr and Declan Rooney do not feature at the back, as Under-21 captain Timmy Hanna plays at right-back, Paul Murphy occupies the position at six and Conor Garvey moves from the centre to left half. At midfield, Stephen Kearney switches from wing half-forward to partner Dan Gordon, with Peter Fitzpatrick dropping out. Conor Maginn, a late substitute in the Ulster SFC defeat at Fermanagh, starts on the '40', with Ronan Murtagh left out.
Down: B McVeigh; C McGovern, K McKernan, D Rafferty; T Hanna, P Murphy, C Garvey; D Gordon, S Kearney; D Hughes, C Maginn; B McArdle, B Coulter, P McComiskey, J Boyle.
