McIver stays on as Donegal boss

Donegal manager Brian McIver
Brian McIver will stay on as manager of Donegal's footballers

Brian McIver is to remain in charge of Donegal for at least another year.

He informed county board officials on Wednesday night that he intended to stay as manager for 2009.

There are to be changes to his backroom team and it is believed Adrian McGuckin has already stepped down as advisor to be replaced by a Donegal-based mentor.

McIver had raised speculation about his position after the defeat to Monaghan when he said he would take time out before making a decision on his future.

Donegal captain Kevin Cassidy said the players were happy McIver was staying.

"We put in a massive effort this year and fell short by a point in both games," said Cassidy.

"There are things we can improve on and Brian is the man who can help us do that.

"We are a young team, starting to mature. We have a lot to offer and feel we are not far away."
