Paddy Bradley fends off Joe Higgins of Laois
Derry progressed to the All-Ireland quarter-finals thanks to a 1-18 to 2-11 win over Laois in a pulsating qualifier at Breffni Park on Saturday night.

The Oak Leafers led 0-9 to 0-8 at the interval but a Padraig McMahon goal levelled the game at 0-12 to 1-9.

A Paul Murphy goal gave Derry some breathing space at 1-14 to 1-9 but Laois replied with a Billy Sheahan goal to reduce the deficit to two points.

Paddy Bradley top scored with eight points as Derry won by four points.

Bradley recorded four points in the first period with Conleth Gilligan (2), Paul Murphy, Mark Lynch and James Conway also knocking the ball between the posts.

Bradley added another four to his tally in the second half with Fergal Doherty, Colin Devlin, Gilligan, Lynch and Gerard O'Kane also getting their names on the scoresheet.

Laois put up a creditable display but Derry were never headed and showed their class in pulling away at the end.
