Tyrone SFC final goes to a replay
Peter Canavan hit nine points for Errigal Ciaran
Canavan's scores seemed to have earned Errigal Ciaran victory
A last-minute penalty by Kevin McNally earned holders Carrickmore a 1-9 to 0-12 draw against Errigal Ciaran in Sunday's WJ Dolan Tyrone SFC final.

Errigal Ciaran, helped by nine Peter Canavan points, seemed certain to win when they led 0-12 to 0-9 as the match entered injury-time at Healy Park.

However, a penalty was then awarded following a goalmouth scramble.

Errigal Ciaran goalkeeper John Devine was injured early on but the sides were level at 0-5 to 0-5 at the interval.

Devine was replaced by substitute goalkeeper Brian McEnenley after being carried off.

The contest was even early on with Canvan notching two Errigal Ciaran points but two points from Michael Gallagher and another two from Mark Donnelly helped Carrickmore move into a 0-4 to 0-2 lead.

Scores from Kevin McNally and Adrian O'Donnell at either ends kept Carrickmore 0-5 to 0-3 ahead but Canavan notched two frees before half-time to level the contest.

Another Canavan free put Errigal Ciaran ahead after half-time but Ronan McGarrity pointed from play to level matters again in the 41st minute.

Carrickmore notched three of the next four scores to move ahead with 0-9 to 0-7 with Michael Gallagher knocking over his third point of the match.

However, five unanswered points, including Canavan's first effort from play and a superb Paul Quinn score, put Errigal Ciaran 0-12 to 0-9 ahead as the game entered injury-time.

At that stage, some spectators were already streaming out of Healy Park but the action was far from over.

Carrickmore won a penalty after a goalmouth scramble and McNally held his nerve to earn his team a replay on 8 October.
