Ulster hurling final back on menu
John McSparron
Antrim chairman John McSparron has had talks with New York
The delayed Ulster hurling final between Antrim and New York could now be played in America in October.

The original final was due to be staged in Belfast in June, but New York could not travel because of visa problems.

However, Antrim have now indicated that they might be willing to play the game with Boston the likely venue.

"There have been communications between ourselves, New York and the Ulster Council," said Antrim chairman John McSparron.

"It has pretty much amounted to wait and see what happens in the Christy Ring Cup final.

"But Antrim are willing to play the Ulster final in America in October provided it is not going to cause difficulty with other competitions and fixtures."

There is a possibility that the game will be played to coincide with the Railway Cup final on the 22 October.

New York did originally offer to pay for Antrim to travel over to play the final in August, but the Saffrons' management refused.

That led to criticism from New York hurling boss Monty Moloney who described Antrim as "cowards" for refusing to travel.
