Derry's hopes of an All-Ireland title have ended in thrilling fashion after Saturday's All-Ireland qualifier defeat to Longford at Pearse Park.
Paddy Bradley was in superb form for Derry at Pearse Park
Oak Leaf forward Paddy Bradley scored 2-7 in an inspirational display with both goals coming in the first half.
Trevor Smullen netted for Longford as Derry led 2-6 to 1-8 at the break.
Both teams held the lead in a see-saw second half and it was level before Paul Barden won it for Longford with a 45-metre free in the final minute.
Longford opened the scoring after just 20 seconds of a rollercoaster first half.
The game was still in its first minute when Paddy Bradley took advantage of a defensive mistake to fire the ball into the net.
Longford hit back immediately with two quick points before Smullen's superb finish put the home side on top.
But a determined Derry side fought back and the Oak Leafers went on to take the lead through a Paddy Bradley point but Longford sent over three frees late in the half to restore their advantage.
The excitement had not ended because in injury-time Paddy Bradley netted from the penalty spot after he was fouled.
The penalty gave Paddy Crozier's team a one-point lead at the break.
The gap increased to three early in the second half before Longford hit four points without reply.
Derry went back in front thanks to a superb brace of points from the inspirational Paddy Bradley.
David Barden wasted an excellent goal chance for Longford and Derry took advantage as Joe Diver pointed.
But Longford fought back and edged ahead after three unanswered points only for Paddy Bradley to equalise.
Paul Barden had the final say as he sent over a free from 45 metres in the last minute to send Derry crashing out of the championship.
