Mayobridge 0-10 1-05 Glenties

Mayobridge player/manager Mickey Linden scored a point
Mayobridge beat Glenties by 0-10 to 1-5 in Sunday's quarter-final at Newry.

A Noel Sexton point gave the Down club champions an early lead and John Quinn, Sexton and Declan Rooney added further points to give them a 0-4 to 0-2 lead.

Glenties, who had a wind advantage in the first half, went ahead in the second half thanks to a Leon Thompson goal, which saw them lead 1-4 to 0-5.

Mayobridge replied in emphatic fashion with five unanswered points, including one from veteran Mickey Linden.

Player-manager Linden introduced himself as a second half substitute.

Anthony Thompson knocked over a couple of frees for Glenties, for whom young Darragh Gallagher scored an excellent point at the start of the second period.

Thompson and Johnny McClune, another point scorer, controlled the midfield for long periods, but the Mayobridge defence proved difficult to break down.

Thompson reduced the deficit late in the game but a late point from Ronan Sexton gave the Down men the final say.

Mayobridge will now face Antrim champions St Gall's in the last four.
