A Gaelic football team made up of members of Garnerville PSNI College is to begin competing within weeks in the Sigerson Cup football competition.
The historic news came after the GAA's Colleges Committee met in Dublin to adopt a new constitution.
Members of the security forces were barred from playing hurling and football until the GAA scrapped its Rule 21 almost four years ago.
"I welcome the prospect of them playing Gaelic," said GAA president Sean Kelly.
"We cannot discriminate against anybody on the basis of career choice.
"It is all part of the process of inclusitivity in modern Ireland."
It is believed the new team will be known as Garnerville Gaels.
The PSNI has had a GAA team for nearly three years and played against the Garda in a fixture almost three years ago.
The Garda won the match by 1-18 to 2-08 and received the McCarthy Cup. George McCarthy, a member of the Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) was one of the founding members of the GAA in 1884.
A triangular tournament featuring the PSNI, Garda and the New York Police Department is planned in Dublin next week.
