Donegal hit the final five points of the game to earn a narrow 1-11 to 1-9 win over Queen's in Sunday's McKenna Cup encounter at Ballybofey.
The home side, helped by a Stephen McDermott goal, led 1-6 to 0-1 after 25 minutes but Queen's fought back with five straight scores before the break.
A Conal Martin goal then edged Queen's 1-9 to 1-6 ahead and seemingly on the way to victory.
However, helped by three Adrian Sweeney points Donegal came good late on.
Queen's had full-forward Kevin McGuckin sent off in the closing stages after he was involved in an off-the-ball incident with a Donegal defender.
Aidan Fegan notched five points for Queen's while Monaghan player Dick Clerkin was also on target for the Belfast university.
